Aims and Objectives
The aims of the qualification is to:
• Introduce the concept of equality and diversity
• Highlight how stereotyping and labelling affect individuals and groups
• Outline the effects of prejudice and discrimination
• Examine the rights and responsibilities of individuals and groups
• Stress the importance of taking individual responsibility and actions to
help and support others
• Promote good practice in the community and or workplace
• Provide basis for further study and or career development
• Raise awareness of the issues surrounding equality and diversity
Course Structure
The course consists of the following units:
Section A
Unit 01 Exploring equality and diversity
This unit aims to establish some of the key definitions and concepts associated with equality and diversity. You will need to reflect on your own situation and local community.
It will explore understanding of equality and diversity. Looking at the effects of stereotyping, labelling, prejudice and discrimination and it’s impact on communities. You will explore how diversity is manifested in your community with reference to values, beliefs, interests, physical characteristics etc.
Section B
Living in a diverse community
This units looks at applying your knowledge of equality and diversity to your own community and investigate the extent to which diversity affects your community. You will also explore how diversity enriches community life and explore the threats that exists to equality and diversity.
Recognising the extent of diversity within your local community and the value of creating and maintaining a diverse environment is explored through a investigation project. The focus is also on the framework and structure that exists to support equality and diversity through a variety of local organisations.
To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity you are required to successfully complete both units.
How is the qualification assessed?
The qualification is assessed through the production of a portfolio of work, which is evidence that you have met all of the learning outcomes specified. The portfolio evidence will take the form of discussions, reports, worksheets, and a research project. The course tutor will support all learners will completion of the portfolio, through dedicated workshops, and tutorial.
